Cricket fever grips Sikkim women: "Sikkim Cricket Association General Secretary Tika Subba said women are showing an interest in the game.

'There has been a major progress in the field of cricket in Sikkim. Unlike earlier, when we used to play cricket, hardly anybody knew about cricket, how it is played. But now, because of television, the public has come to know about how it is played,' Subba told reporters.

'Slowly and steadily girls are also getting interested in playing cricket. The boys have been playing it for long,' he added.

Women cricketers are confident of performing well at the national level."

Chidambaram gave a patient hearing to Chamling, who also raised other issues like development, and promised to
look into the demands at the Delhi meeting, the sources said.

The followers of Karmapa Ugyen Trinley Dorje demand that New Delhi must lift the ban on the young 'lama' to travel to Rumtek, and allow him to take his throne at the monastery.

'It has been 10 years since the 17th Karmapa had come to India from Tibet, but still he has not been allowed to enter Sikkim even though being allowed to visit Bokar monastery in Mirik, which is very close to state. He should be allowed to come,' a spokesperson for the Karmapa Reception Committee said at a rally in Gangtok on September 26."

The Telegraph - Calcutta (Kolkata) | North Bengal & Sikkim | Sikkim tour dreams ride on rail plan: "Gangtok, Dec. 8: An ambitious plan to link tourist destinations in Darjeeling district and Sikkim through train service has been drawn up by the Northeast Frontier Railway.

The 163km-long broad gauge track linking Mirik and Gangtok will pass through the hills and valleys of the eastern Himalayas. The report was submitted to the Sikkim government last month.

Apart from Gangtok, which is a popular destination for visitors from all over the world, the NFR has proposed three more stations in Sikkim. They are Namchi in South Sikkim, Daramdin in West district and Ranipul near the state capital."
