Chamling talks to Chidambaram on Karmapa's visit to Sikkim - Hindustan Times

Chamling talks to Chidambaram on Karmapa's visit to Sikkim - Hindustan Times: "Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today discussed with Union Home Minister P Chidambaram the issue of permitting 17th Karmapa Ugyen Trinley Dorje to visit Sikkim, official sources said here. Chidambaram gave a patient hearing to Chamling, who also raised other issues like development, and promised to
look into the demands at the Delhi meeting, the sources said.

The followers of Karmapa Ugyen Trinley Dorje demand that New Delhi must lift the ban on the young 'lama' to travel to Rumtek, and allow him to take his throne at the monastery.

'It has been 10 years since the 17th Karmapa had come to India from Tibet, but still he has not been allowed to enter Sikkim even though being allowed to visit Bokar monastery in Mirik, which is very close to state. He should be allowed to come,' a spokesperson for the Karmapa Reception Committee said at a rally in Gangtok on September 26."
